About us
Welcome! Good that you want to know more about our association. De Graancirkel is Groningen's newest student sports association and has recently joined the ACLO. The ACLO Sports Centre is also where our training sessions, pick-up games (toss evenings) and tournaments (usually) take place. For the location of our trainings, check the homepage.
Roundnet
Roundnet is a relatively new and small sport, but that does not take away from the fact that it possibly is the most fun(!) sport of all. The dynamic game has been gaining ground worldwide in recent years, and it is getting bigger and bigger in the Netherlands too. The sport is played with 4 people who are free to move 360 degrees around the net. The ball must be played back to the net within 3 contacts, and should this fail, the point is for the opponent. Want to read more about the sport? Read more here.
Trainings
Every member has the opportunity to train at least twice a week at their own level, with a trainer present once a week. During the training sessions, different aspects of the sport will be addressed every week, allowing you to develop very quickly, but also to have a lot of fun. We also go out to play whenever we feel like, for instance to play some games in the park with some music and snacks. This means that you'll have plenty of opportunities to play Roundnet, but also to socialize! No training is ever compulsory, just join whenever you want!
Tournaments
To shine with your skills from the training sessions, tournaments are organised regularly. Both members and non-members can participate, and you can test whether you can handle the stress of competition. Members of de Graancirkel have priority over the limited number of places at the tournaments, in addition to the (cheaper) member price.
Activities
Besides playing sports, we also organise other activities. The activities are obviously not compulsory but it is a good way to get to know your fellow Graancirkel members in a different way, and make new friends among your fellow members. We organize both activities with and without alcohol involved, and drinking is never compulsory. For instance, we will go ice skating, or play poker or board games.
Committees
You can also become an active member of de Graancirkel! The TournamentCie will run the tournaments and come up with fun ideas for testing the skills of the members. You and your committee will be responsible for the success of the tournaments. In organising, the committee is kept very free so you can never think too big! We also have an activities committee (AcCie). It deals with informal activities. At least, informal, a real Graancirkel member is always keen to win, even during pool for instance! Finally, we are also looking for people who are like promotion and social media, so message us if any of these things interest you!
